Weekly Reflection
One cold day in Florida (cold is relative, I suppose), I went out to check the mail and found a chilled honey bee worker in the parking lot of my apartment complex. I assume she had gotten caught out in the cold before she could return to the warmth of her hive and clustering hive mates. I took this bee inside so it could thaw, fed it some honey to refuel it, and photographed it in a plastic container. During the warmer part of the day, I released her close to where I had found her so she could return to her hive (hopefully).
If you look closely, you can see the tongue-like apparatus that the bee uses to take in nectar or honey. This worker has no pollen in its pollen basket (located on the back most legs), so she didn't get far on her foraging trip when I had found her.
I did a little bit of photo editing to make the image look better. I attempted to take out some of the shadow, but this was the best that I could manage. I think the image is pretty good, compared to many of the fuzzy ones that I take!
